For the Sunday, August 9th, 1998 Marriage of Gail Ann Austin and John Joseph Clare.

The wedding is scheduled for 1:00 pm Sunday, August 9th at the Durand Church of Christ, which is located at 4225 Culver Road, Rochester, NY, 14622.  Culver is one of Rochester's main North-South roadways, running all the way from Cobbs Hill Park to Lake Ontario.  The Durand Church of Christ is located at the Northern end of Culver, about a half-mile South of Seabreeze Amusement Park.  Specifically, it's on the Northwest corner of Culver Road and Dewberry Drive.

Seeing as how the church is nestled in the northeast corner of the Lake and the Bay, the easiest way for most people to get there would be by way of Route 590 North.  Take the Rt. 590 highway to Rt. 104 West, to Culver Road, which is an immediate off-ramp exit.  Then turn right on Culver and drive exactly 2.4 miles.  The church would then be on your left.

Here's a map for the surrounding area.  As you've probably guessed, this map originated from the on-line mapping service in Yahoo.

Yahoo used to have this great point-to-point directions feature, but they recently hooked up with MapQuest, and now their mapping software is really lame.  On top of that, they don't even have Rochester in their database.  Sorry, folks.

The Durand Church of Christ is really a charming little church, neither pretentious or pompous.  This has been Gail's church since she was a little girl, although admittedly neither of us are active members right now.  But the location and the tie-in to her past were enough for us to choose this church over any other.  For myself, I feel it's pretty important to enter marriage with the kind of commitment and conviction that a religious service provides, so when Gail suggested her church, I was all for it.

And this wonderful person is the minister who will be officiating over our wedding, the Reverend Jane Roe.  We spent a few months meeting with Jane for pre-marriage counseling, and got to know one another quite well.  In '97 I attended a service she held for the baptism of Gail's godchild, Emma, and was more than a little impressed by Jane.  She has a very genuine way about her.  It's a wonderful thing, and we are quite happy to have her at our wedding.
