Go Back 1982 PONTIAC TRANS AM

The small-block Chevy 305 cubic inch engine in the 1982 Pontiac Trans Am was rated at a pitiful 150 horsepower at the rear wheels, which was barely enough to put it through the quarter mile in 18 seconds. Seriously... 18 seconds. Ugh. Although respectable for 1982 (if you can believe that), those are pathetic numbers, regardless of all the good looks. It was 1982, after all...

...so I stripped out all the emissions, including the air-conditioning. There was no computer chip to complain, so it was happy to be rid of the baggage. At the top, I used an Edelbrock aluminum intake, with a Carter 625 4-barrel and a low-rider 18" air filter. Underneath were Hooker alumni-coated headers and a custom, 2.5" dual-exhaust. Inside I added a Hurst Competition shifter with linkage. Eagle GT tires certainly helped, but I was more interested in the straight-away than the twisties. Of course, it was a crappy GM product after all, and not designed for all that horsepower, so I went through 3 clutches and 2 rear-ends, not to mention endless speeding tickets - but man, what a rush!
